Trying to hide goes as expected.
I guess every kid has some kind of chore they have to do, even a strange human boy adopted by a family of dragons.
In this story, Toby gets to be a draconic dentist. Swallowing the dentist whole isn’t usually considered good behavior, but his patient ends up getting rewarded with a pretty tasty treat anyway.
Toby finds something strange in the belly of one of his siblings…
Sometimes, when we’re hurt, we need comfort just as much as we need healing. Sometimes more.
Sometimes, even dragons can use a little help. Luckily, Toby is the best dragon-helping little boy you could ask for.
Toby and his family have all kinds of games they like to play together. Some are more unique than others.
Living in caves of hard rock, in the cold heights of the mountains, comfort would normally be a dream of something far away. But Toby can find comfort where few others can.
With a human boy growing up in a family of dragons, there’s a lot to learn on both sides. In many, many ways, Toby is practically as safe as can be. But there are still a few mistakes that can put the young boy in danger, some of which he and his kin might not fully be aware of yet…
Being the little human he is, there’s a lot of things Toby is useful for. But often he’s much more valuable as a little brother than simply a human, just as his siblings are much more valuable to him as family than as guardians.
Toby spends a nice night inside a warm belly.
Toby’s world was always full of big things, but now his world is about to get a whole lot bigger.
Toby’s exploring some brand new territory, but that can come with some new dangers. Growing up- or helping someone grow up- you tend to make mistakes and learn from them. It’s important to have someone around to catch you when you fall.
Toby enjoys a light dinner with a family member.
Dragons are a dominant force, but nature has woven them into its tight balance. Some prey species have spent generation after generation evolving to avoid them or out-breed them. Other forms of life have evolved to make use of them. But a little glowing human living with his big dragon family up in the mountains? Nature had nothing to do with that. Nature was unprepared for the force that is Toby.
Toby is a remarkably happy boy, living in a safe home with a big, loving family- even if that home is a cave system high in the mountains, and his family members are all dragons many, many times his size. …But there is one thing which happens occasionally that does upset him.
Things Toby can do: be cute, be helpful, be polite, be loving, glow very visibly, be small, slide easily down the nearest throat.
Things Toby can’t do: roar, be intimidating, outrun things, bite things, stop things from biting him, poke things with claws, stop claws from poking him, stop things from lifting him up-
You know, practically speaking, maybe that skillset could use a little improvement.
Whether it’s chores or play, Toby tends to spend most of his time with his siblings, or less often, his cousins. His parents are usually around- if they’re not out hunting- but they aren’t usually involved. Sometimes, though, his mom will steal him away for a little help herself, and maybe a little fun too.
Toby thrives in his special home, but only because he has his special family there to help him along.
Toby gets some exciting news, but shhhh, it’s a secret.
For the first time, Toby gets to join his family for a bit of fun down in one of the valley lakes. It’s a new challenge for him, but there isn’t much you can’t overcome with your family by your side- especially when they’re all dragons.
It’s a wide and wonderous world, and with Toby finally out exploring it, who knows what he’ll find? :p
Toby is very happy to get another letter from Ambur, but his aunt is starting to have second thoughts… Maybe for good reason.
Growing up in such a special family comes with many special moments. The most special moments are those that can be shared.
A new letter from Toby’s pen-pal Ambur! I wonder what it says? …But are there maybe some things better left unknown?
Clak doesn’t like seeing his little brother upset. But what can he do about it?
When your mind is too busy and heavy, sometimes you just need to spend some time and feel the world. Toby’s world is special; it can usually feel back.
Older siblings can give the best surprises, cause they can usually do more than you, and they know exactly what you wish you could do yourself. That doesn’t mean things won’t ever get a little messy, though. That’s not usually a problem for Toby- in fact that’s usually the kind of surprise he wants. But this time is a bit different. Okay, a lot different. Very a lot different.
So many things Toby couldn’t put in those letters, now he can say it all face to face! And show it all too! Just as well, since I’m pretty sure Ambur wouldn’t have believed it otherwise. Hopefully she takes it all well, but I wouldn’t worry too much, not when Toby’s on the job.
Sometimes, a bad thought can plant its seed in your head, and sprout overnight.
